Hi from Sydney - New 2015 Ohlins ZX14R :-)
08/30/15 3:40 AM

Hi All!

Picked up my new 2015 ZX14R Ohlins Edition a few days ago!
I've owned Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki sports bikes, but this is my first Kawasaki, and my first bike over 1000cc.
I did some research, and decided on the Akrapovic's slip-ons. Extra performance wasn't an issue, but I loved he look and the exhaust note.

I tested a number of bikes before deciding on the Ninja. My last bike was an FZ1N, so I was worried the forward lean would be hard to adjust to as the seating position on the FZ1 is upright. I came so close to grabbing the BMW S1000R, but eventually decided that the Ninja just had be experienced.

OH WOW. Seating position? I had forgotten I was leaning within an hour. This girl is comfy! I have not gone above 4000rpm yet, but I can feel the potential lurking below this cowling. Totally effortless power! I am loving this bike more than I thought I would! I took it to work on Friday, and lane filtering was not problem at all. I did a 200km run on Saturday up the local bike roads, and she was just gorgeous. So well mannered in every aspect. How do they make a bike this big feel so light?

DID SOMEONE SAY SMOOTH? I have never in my riding life experienced so smooth an engine! Bravo Kawasaki! My Akra pipes have introduced an ever so subtle about of vibration since installation, but overall, all I can say is WOW. Buttery Smooth transmission and Engine!

My only gripe is that I didn't realise my Ohlins edition does not come with the luggage hooks, so now I'm kind of limited to the baggage I can use until I find a solution. Its a bit of a pain really, because I was intending on using those hooks! Anyone have any suggestions?

GDay CJ,
Welcome to the 14 family!
Great bike you have there.
You wont be disappointed with your choice.
However as this is your first bike over 1000cc's, initially make sure you pay your new girl plenty of respect till you get use to whats on offer because even though she is relatively mildly mannered she can bite very hard!

As for a baggage option, take a look at this link.

Bagster Spider

I have the hooks standard on my 14R but dont really use them due to this great piece of kit.

All the best with the new bike and make sure you take a good look around this site as there is some amazing information and majorly cluey guys within...

Thanks all!

Thanks for the luggage advice! Picked up a Bagster Spider on Monday afternoon from MCA Auburn.
Works fantastic! I love how the brackets for each mounting hook are hard moulded to clip onto the edge of the ZX14R seat. I have my spider mounted, and nothing is touching the plastic.

I must say, i really like the look of the rear rack posted by oldman.. i may have to see if i can find one in oz.
Do you have any details on the rack mate?

Cheers,
Ed.

Gday, cj, how's the black SE going ? Are you happy with your choice ? I'm down near Melbourne & on the look out for a deal, there's still a couple of bikes around the same as yours. Do you mind me asking what you paid ? I like the sound of the Ohlins in the rear. Does the front end live up to it in the twisties.
Thanks in advance, Johnno.
Tried to PM you but your not on the listing.

I'm interested to know also - Without even pushing I had the salesman tell me 19.9k ride away for a '15 ohlins edition. Myself, i'm waiting for the 2016 model as it gets full brembo brake system (M/C and calipers).

Just waiting to see when we actually get a '16 model in oz.

How much better than 19.9k can you get? or is that pretty good?

Apparently the 16 bikes are going to be 10 HP down due to the new Euro 4 emissions targets now being met. Also I haven't heard a word against the ZX14 brakes as standard, apparently really good. Personally I,d rather a black bike.
Mine is on its way from interstate, doing a trade with my KTM. The same model & colour as cjmonkey in the photo,s above, O,hlins & only 3,500 klm on her, with Yoshi cans. DONE DEAL.
I was hoping the [ new to me,] ZX14 would be here in time for next weekend as i,m going on a 4 day trip with around 20 mates but it won't get here in time, I,ll be going on the Aprilia instead.
Theres a 16 SE model in the showroom near me already.

14R standard brakes are great, plenty of pedal and feel for the front. Rear could be better imo, but that I understand all bikes are basically like that these days (at least big 4).

Stopping distances are nearly identical for H2, 10R, and 14R. H2 has the "upgrade" Brembo parts, I'm sure the same kit the '16 14R SEs are equipped with. Maybe they have a better feel? I dunno but honestly doubt it. I'd hope the rear would be more progressive but I doubt they'd change this (limp rears). There's a place I ride which is basically like a track and I push the brakes very hard. Standard 14R brakes work very well.

Wow. A 14 and a factory tuono (the 1100 I assume)! Lucky man. I'd love one of those tuonos (especially with a full austin racing system on it!). Its one of my other "must test ride" vehicles

Hey GTR, yep the Factory Tuono is a pretty awesome thing, fell in love with that V4 engine. Character plus. I've put an Akro & race map on her lately, chews thru tyres like the 14 will I bet, that's the price we pay for dragging our foot pegs I spose.
The 14 will be a great bike for the Aprilia to share the garage with, do the big klm trips on & share rides with the Mrs.
